Understanding the several benefits of toned milk

Milk comes with all its goodness, but it also has high-fat content. This staple dairy product is inevitable for its nutrients and calcium. Several types of milk are available to act as alternatives to full-fat milk. Toned milk is one of them. It is a thinned version of buffalo milk. Mixing buffalo milk with skim milk powder or milk thins the milk significantly.

Buffalo milk has approximately 8% fat and 9% to 10% non-fat solids. Toning decreases the fat content radically and generates a high amount of milk. This process augments milk quantity thrice. It is ideal for places where the demand for milk is high, and the supply is insufficient.

Dairy product manufacturers offer two types of toned milk, such as:

  • Single-toned milk: This is regular-toned milk. It includes 3% of fat.

  • Double-toned milk: The same blend of buffalo milk with water or skim milk offers double-toned milk. Pasteurization is done for double-toned milk.

Difference between Full-Fat Milk and Toned Milk

  • Cow’s milk is also known as full-fat milk in its unaltered and raw form. It is also known as whole milk. The fat content stays as it is. It includes 3.5% of fat and several nutrients. The non-fat solids are at 9%. The creaminess, owing to its fat content, gives a better taste to the milk. It is safe for consumption as no alterations are done to it.

  • Toned milk, in contrast, is a diluted version of buffalo milk. The full-fat buffalo milk version is not suitable for everyday use. This is primarily because of its high saturated fat content. But, it is a great option to derive paneer and ghee.

  • Diluting buffalo milk decreases the fat content and augments quantity. The fat percentage of toned milk is the same as cow’s milk at 3.5%. There is a small decrease in non-fat solids to 8.5%. The nutritional values of toned milk stay intact. Thus, it is not as creamy as whole milk.

Thus, changing to toned milk can help lose weight and enhance digestion. Toned milk is a perfect addition to your daily quota of dairy products unless you are lactose intolerant.
