What Makes Indian Sweets so Popular Across the World?

Indians not only express their love through food but sweets also form an essential constituent of each celebration. Each festival brings with it various types of Indian mithai, similarly various parts of India prepare their own specialities for celebrations. All sweet items are associated with occasions and festivals like rabdi sweet are associated with Janmashtami, the festival of Lord Krishna.

Rabdi is a milk-based Indian dessert which includes thickened and sweetened milk. This indulgence is very delicious and it has layers of cream in it! Spices, especially saffron and cardamom, and nuts are added to it as well. It is particularly appetizing when eaten with other desserts, such as jalebi and gulab jamun.

From ladoo, barfi, kaju katli, gulab jamun, petha, rabdi kheer, halwa and so much more, the choice of flavours are never-ending.

Why are Indian sweets compulsory to have for a celebration?

As per Hindus, Indian sweets contain milk, sugar, and ghee. These ingredients are considered pure and can be eaten by one and all, even vegetarians and spiritual leaders. They are also offered to the Gods and are distributed to the devotees in temples. Indian sweets are often used to break fasts or eaten during a fast keeping in mind that they have no religious significance. This tradition has been kept alive for decades and the sweets are always served at times of celebrations.

Traditionally, Indian desserts are shared with friends and family when they come to visit and are frequently given as gifts. It is popular for holidays like Holi or Diwali to include the giving or sharing of sweets as part of the festival customs.

But there does not need to be a festival going on for each person to enjoy dessert. People love to eat dessert after every meal, whether it is dinner, lunch, or breakfast. If you have a sweet tooth, traditional Indian desserts are pleasures worth exploring.
